“Hanging in the Cold”
While it seemed to be a top news story all week that it was going to be in the fifties and windy, that forecast didn’t stop a bunch of windsurfers from catching the waves.
I was just happy to get a decent shot after getting ambushed with blowing sand and salt-water mist for a half-hour.

“Rare rain”
With an annual rainfall total of just over four inches a year, and only .1 of those occurring in April, we had what I think is a rare opportunity to experience Joshua Tree National Park in the rain today. We got wet and dried off several times, but got soaked about a quarter way in to our two mile hike to Lost Horse Mine. I took a minute on the way back to grab this shot though.

“Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer”
Without any real plans or scouting of where to be when sunset came, I hurried to find a Joshua Tree that I could actually get a photo of when the sky started turning. I quickly learned that finding a shapely one, without some sort obstacle to work around to get in the right position is quite a task. I’m happy with the result of this ‘with the motor running’ shot.

After much consideration, I’ve decided to make the change. Gonna keep it short here, but feel free to email me if you want to know more.
The time has come to hang up the headphones. Once I get through this last wedding season, I will be selling much of my equipment and giving up DJ’ing. Let’s face it, I’m getting old and now one wants an old, unhip with da music, guy DJ’ing their wedding.
As you know, I’ve been taking a liking to photography. So I’m going to start off photographing friends and family. (If you want a portrait, give me a call this year. My gift to you is your gift to me…practice.) And by all means, if you have anyone interested in some photography, please let me know!

‘Luckier Shot’
A lot of things have to come together for a shot as this. Me in the right place, deer in the right place, snow, soft sunlight, sunlight shining fairly unobstructed on deer, fairly unobstructed camera view, tree lines leading toward the deer… But one of the most crazy things, as deer hunters will tell you, is that deer have a knack for standing behind a tree…even when they don’t even yet know you are there. And if you so much as exhale or blink when they are looking right at you, it’s over–and ‘der he was…gone.
So to have all of the above work out, and then for me to be able to overcome that ‘buck fever’ shaking and be able get a clear shot at 200mm, I’m happy I got any usable picture at all!

‘Lucky Shot’
I’ve put on a lot of miles this year snowshoeing…most times with the goal of hunting deer. I wanted to get a nice, close shot of a deer in the snow with a nice background…you know, wallpaper material. But after going out many times without any luck, I started going without my camera.
Today I decided to take the camera again, but I only took the middle zoom because if nothing else, I could still photo something along the trail. Being overdressed with the sun going down, I soon wished I had left the camera in the car. It’s big, and gets in the way when snowshoeing.
With about 1.5 miles in, I was just daydreaming and trudging along when I saw a little deer. Then I saw three more. I watched them run up the hill only to have the last one give me the pose I had been looking for all season. But when I reviewed the photos I took of the other ten or so deer that I shot shortly afterward, this one jumped out. Yes, pun intended.
Check back tomorrow for the shot I had been waiting for.

‘Nice ice’
After a nice nap following a 3.1 mile snowshoe hike in which I sought out to get a photo for today, I went out to my vehicle to retrieve my camera. I was watching the sidewalk carefully, as much of it was covered with ice from the melted snow, when I noticed this pattern reflected in the light. ‘Untitled’
I did today what I hoped this ‘project’ would get me to do, that is, to go out and take photos. I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading and watching tutorials about photography lately. So I took some of the guidance and put on the 100-400 and went out to find things I probably otherwise wouldn’t. There’s no question in my 3.25 mile snowshoe trek that I passed by many opportunities because I was looking too macro, but I did get a few that are OK. So here’s to the photo of the day effort.
