The sign says it all! And if it looks like a classic, it’s because it is. We went there once in a while when I was a kid, and 30+ years later, I think the place is virtually unchanged. That’s cool.

“Fun Spot”
I’m not sure why, but I’ve loved this sign the first time I saw it. Taken with the great Kodak DC280 2.1 MP camera July 6, 2003 at Fun Spot Action Park in Orlando, Florida.
I’ve taken over 100,000 digital photos during the past 13 years. As I started going through them for the first time a few months ago, I’ve noticed that I’ve taken a lot of photos of signs.
I’ve taken them for a variety of reasons it seems. Some because they are helpful, some because they are funny, and some just because they are weird. Some because they show the passage of time and how things were, and others are just because they arts of work in themselves.
I may be alone in the enjoyment of them, but I thought I’d share them in the event I am not. So today, I start the Sign of the Day.

“For the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”
I found this one fitting to start things off. Many visitors to Yellowstone National Park probably do not see this awesome sign on the Roosevelt Arch at the northwest entrance to the park.
I love this place. I could hang out there for days.

I know kids are kids, but after several days of seeing the memorials and monuments, and the utmost lack of reverence by more than a few students, I was more than a bit disappointed. A few gave me hope today however.
I happened to catch the end of the instructions a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant was giving to four youth who were about to present a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The Staff Sergeant was everything you’d expect of someone holding such a role at such a place, but it was the students (as pictured in the glasses of the Staff Sergeant) that were the story here.
No noise, not a smirk, and only utmost reverence from them, probably more so than that of even myself and many other of the adults there. So to the Unknowns represented there, the soldiers guarding them, and these fine youth, you have my reverence.

I have to think it was planned this way. Things like this don’t happen by accident. The amazing foresight in some of the monuments in our Nation’s Capitol is stunning, if one finds them.
I’ve noticed a few, and I no doubt walked by many others with notice. I found this gem at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Since I haven’t found any other photos like it, I have to think it is somewhat of a secret. That’s understandable as you can only see it in one spot and move your head half an inch one way or the other and you’ll miss it.

I never went bird shooting before. I learned that shooting birds in a tree is not that hard. Catching the mallards as they fly up the river at probably close to 50 MPH is going to take some practice.
